Meat on a Stick!
Can't get any better than that. Add a few choice veggies, a couple of cold ones and watch the FUN begin!
What? Too Much Work?
This stuff is easy, and fun. Almost everything can be made up ahead of time. Meat can be marinated, vegetables can be cut-up in advance. You can "customize" each skewer to match each guests taste, or even better... Let them make their own! And then after they are all done... you (YEAH YOU!) get to take all of the left over fixins (plus the premium cuts of meat and select vegetables that you stashed away in the fridge eariler) and make yourself the Mondo-Mega Kabob! Don't worry about looking selfish... You deserve it. Just think of all the people you just made happy!
A few simple tips are:
- If using skewers at your place, invest in a good set of metal skewers. They don't break and... they've got handles!
- If you are taking your food creation to someone elses party or to a tailgate, use wooden ones so you will not have to keep track of them.
- If using wooden skewers, follow the direction on the package and pre-soak them. (it really is worth it)
- Try to group foods together with close cooking times, or separate foods with un-equal cooking times on different skewers.
- If using a marinade. Marinate in refrigerator as long as possible, overnite is prefered.
- You can cut your vegetables up ahead of time and soak them in cold water in the refrigerator overnite also.
A real kid pleaser is to cut up combination of smoked sausage & hotdogs into 1-1/2 inch pieces, altertnate pieces on wooden skewers. Cook on grill and baste with your favorite BBQ sauce the last minute or two of cooking. Quick, easy, and the kids love them.
I have listed a few of my favorites below, but be creative... try your own combinations of different meats and veggies. Use your favorite bottled sauces and marinades. Above all have fun making your BBQ Better!
