The Ultimate Hot Italian Sausage Sandwich
Ingredients:
6 Hot Italian Sausage Links
1 Large Green Bell Pepper
1 Large Onion
1 Can Stewed Tomatoes 15.5 oz
1 Can Tomato Paste 6 oz
15 ounces of Bloody Mary Mix
1/4 cup Red Pepper Sauce
1/4 tsp Sweet Basil
1/4 tsp Oregano
1 Clove Garlic (crushed)
2 tsp Sugar
Salt & Pepper to Taste
16 ounces Shredded Provolone Cheese
6 Hearty Sub Buns (about 7-8 inches long)
Place sausage in a large, deep walled skillet with lid. add 1/4 inch of water. Cover and cook over med-high heat for about 10 minutes. uncover and continue cooking until water is evaporated and sausage is browned and cooked throughout, turning often.

While sausages are cooking clean and de-seed green pepper and cut into long strips then peel & cut the onion in half top to bottom and then cut into strips also from top to bottom. When sausages are done remove from the skillet. Add bloody mary mix into skillet to de-glaze. Add in remaining ingredients (except cheese & buns of course) and mix together. Add sausages back to the sauce mixture, cover and simmer over medium heat for 20 - 30 minutes or until the onions and peppers are tender and the sauce is thickened.

Split buns but do not cut all the way through. open buns and place on  a cookie sheet. Brown the buns without any butter. this makes the buns less soggy after you add the sauce. Time to build the sandwich...

Place a little bit of shredded cheese to the bottom of the bun. (this also slows the sauce from soaking into the bun)  Next, add a sausage link and cover with the veggies and sauce. Then top with more shredded cheese. Place back on cookie sheet and cook under broiler until cheese is melted. ENJOY!

If there are any leftovers (or if you just want to make extra) cut the sausages crossways into 1/4 inch thick pieces. Mix back into remaining sauce and serve over pasta.  Fantastic!
